Death by Lightning
Drama53 min per episode
As James A. Garfield enters the White House, the presidency is already a siege of demands, rivalries, and men who believe public office is theirs by right. Among them is Charles J. Guiteau, a failed office-seeker who convinces himself Garfield owes him a reward and begins turning grievance into obsession. The series follows the collision between a reform-minded president trying to govern and a volatile hanger-on who reads every setback as a personal betrayal. As Garfield’s administration struggles with patronage battles and political pressure, Guiteau moves closer to violence. Michael Shannon and Matthew Macfadyen anchor a story that tracks how vanity, ambition, and a broken political culture narrow toward catastrophe.
