The Thin Red Line

DramaWar171 min

On Guadalcanal in World War II, the men of Army rifle company C-for-Charlie go from an unopposed landing to brutal jungle fighting as the campaign wears on. Sean Penn and Jim Caviezel are among the soldiers moving through tall grass, mud, and confusion, while Nick Nolte appears as one of the officers pushing the advance. Terrence Malick follows the company through assaults, setbacks, and stretches of waiting, keeping close to how battle reshapes the men caught inside it. The Pacific island setting stays vivid throughout: dense hillsides, heat, gunfire, and the constant presence of death alongside the landscape’s uneasy calm.
