The Piano
DramaRomance121 min
Holly Hunter is Ada, a mute Scottish woman sent to colonial New Zealand for an arranged marriage, arriving on a remote shore with her young daughter Flora (Anna Paquin) and the piano that serves as her voice. When her new husband leaves the instrument behind, a neighboring frontiersman offers a way to get it back, drawing Ada into a bargain that unsettles the household and the small settler community around them. In 1851’s muddy tracks, rough beaches, and dense bush, the story turns on desire, control, and the bond between a mother and daughter.
