The Postman

ComedyDramaRomance114 min

On a small Italian island, unemployed Mario (Massimo Troisi) takes a temporary job delivering the flood of letters sent to visiting poet Pablo Neruda. Philippe Noiret's Neruda becomes an unlikely mentor as Mario discovers metaphor, language, and a new confidence, hoping poetry might help him reach Beatrice, the local woman who has caught his eye. Maria Grazia Cucinotta is Beatrice, whose presence gives Mario’s lessons a personal stake. As their rounds and conversations continue, the film follows a friendship between a celebrated writer and a working-class postman finding new words for love, politics, and the life around him.
