Nadine is already barely holding it together in high school when her one solid friendship collapses: her best friend starts dating Nadine’s older brother, the sibling she can’t stand. Hailee Steinfeld is Nadine, a smart, self-conscious teenager whose crushes, family tension, and everyday humiliations keep spilling over at school and at home. As she spirals from one bad decision to the next, the one person who can meet her sarcasm head-on is her history teacher, with Woody Harrelson bringing a dry, deadpan counterpoint to her panic. The story stays close to Nadine’s point of view as adolescence turns every setback into a crisis.
