Greg is a high school senior who treats anonymity like a survival strategy, drifting between cliques and spending his free time making oddball movie parodies with Earl, the friend he insists is really just a “co-worker.” Thomas Mann is Greg, whose carefully managed routine gets upended when his mother pushes him to spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke), a classmate newly diagnosed with leukemia. As Greg is drawn into Rachel’s world, the film tracks the awkwardness, deflection, and small shifts in how he relates to her, to Earl, and to the story he keeps telling about himself.
