Cal Weaver thought he had the suburban American dream until his wife asks for a divorce and admits she’s been unfaithful. Steve Carell is Cal, a forty-something husband and father suddenly dropped back into the dating world after decades away from it, while Ryan Gosling’s Jacob Palmer takes him on as a project at the bar, overhauling everything from his clothes to his approach. Around them, Julianne Moore’s Emily is sorting through the breakup, Cal’s teenage son is fixated on his babysitter, and Emma Stone turns up as one of the few women Jacob can’t effortlessly charm.
