After time in a psychiatric institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents outside Philadelphia, determined to rebuild his life and reconnect with his estranged wife. Bradley Cooper is Pat, clinging to therapy, running, and a strict optimism that keeps colliding with the chaos at home. Robert De Niro's Pat Sr. measures everything through Philadelphia Eagles superstition and family tension. Then Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a young widow with troubles of her own, who offers to help him contact his wife if he'll be her partner for an upcoming dance competition.
