Wong Fei Hung spends his time trying to outdo a close friend in one martial arts contest after another, until their fathers’ anger forces him to take training more seriously. When that friend is badly hurt after crossing a rival school, Wong goes there looking for payback and ends up caught in a larger dispute over discipline, reputation, and fighting style, including a challenge from a Northern martial artist. Gordon Liu is at the center of the film, with Kara Hui in the cast, as school rivalries and formal bouts turn a loose, competitive friendship into something sharper.
