Letters from Iwo Jima
ActionAdventureDramaFamilyWar141 min
As American forces close in on Iwo Jima, the Japanese soldiers ordered to defend the island face a battle they know they may not survive. Clint Eastwood tells the World War II campaign from inside the Japanese ranks, following General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe) as he rethinks the island’s defenses in its caves and volcanic rock, while Kazunari Ninomiya is one of the younger soldiers pulled into the grinding siege. The film stays close to life inside the outpost: military hierarchy, homesickness, and the uneasy gap between duty and survival as the battle tightens around them.
