The Holdovers
ComedyDrama133 min
During Christmas break in 1970, a prickly classics teacher at a New England prep school is left to supervise the few boys who have nowhere else to go. Paul Giamatti is the instructor, whose rigid standards and sour temper leave him stranded with one especially bright, troubled student (Dominic Sessa). Sharing the nearly empty campus is the school’s head cook, with Da’Vine Joy Randolph carrying the grief of a mother who has just lost her son in Vietnam. Over a snowbound holiday, the three are pushed into an uneasy closeness shaped by class, loss, and the awkward rituals of school life.
