Jai and Meera are a London couple who decide to break up when career plans send them in different directions, trying to keep things practical even as distance refuses to make the relationship simple. Saif Ali Khan is Jai, confident that love can be managed on modern terms, while Deepika Padukone's Meera carries the same uncertainty across London, Delhi, and San Francisco. Running alongside their story is an older romance from 1965, with Veer Singh (Rishi Kapoor) looking back on a courtship shaped by patience, longing, and grand gestures. Imtiaz Ali cuts between the two eras, contrasting contemporary independence with a more old-fashioned idea of commitment.
