California widower Joel Wallace is a successful businessman with a grand house and little time for home; John Schneider’s Joel is so wrapped up in work that his daughter tries to change the family’s life herself. Jenna Boyd is Felice, the nine-year-old who writes to a TV Christmas special asking for a new mother, setting off attention from a local station. A news director sends a reporter, played by Cynthia Gibb, to cover the story, and what begins as a holiday media assignment starts to pull strangers into the Wallace household.
