After stealing a large sum from her employer, Marion Crane heads out of town hoping to start over with her boyfriend, only to wind up at the isolated Bates Motel. Anne Heche's Marion is tired, impulsive, and increasingly rattled by the road, while motel owner Norman Bates (Vince Vaughn) greets her with awkward courtesy and the constant presence of his domineering mother just out of sight. Gus Van Sant's remake of Hitchcock's story keeps the desert highways, the lonely motel, and the feeling that Marion has checked into the wrong place at exactly the wrong time.
