In 1980, government official Guner Sernikli is sent with his wife and wheelchair-bound daughter to an isolated Turkish province, appointed head librarian in a village that doesn’t even have a library. The family is welcomed warmly, but the wider political unrest of the period—leftist and rightist clashes spreading from the cities—begins to reach the village’s young people. Yılmaz Erdoğan and Demet Akbağ lead the story as Guner’s quiet authority and his daughter Tuba’s presence stir admiration, gossip, and tension around them. Drawn from Erdoğan’s childhood memories of Hakkâri, the film mixes village comedy with the unease of a country on edge.
