Whatever Works

ComedyRomance93 min

A cranky, self-satisfied New York eccentric has built a life around keeping everyone at a distance and explaining why most people are fools. That arrangement falls apart when a much younger runaway from the South shows up at his door with nowhere to go, and he reluctantly lets her stay. As she settles into the city, their odd household turns into an unlikely romance, forcing him to deal with needs and feelings he usually mocks. Then her deeply conventional family arrives in Manhattan, and their collision with his worldview sends everyone into a chain of new pairings, reinventions, and romantic chaos. Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood lead the mismatch at the center.
