Shoah

DocumentaryWar569 min

Claude Lanzmann's documentary approaches the Holocaust through interviews with survivors, bystanders, and perpetrators, using no archival footage at all. Lanzmann conducts the conversations himself and travels to former extermination-camp sites in Poland, including Chelmno, Auschwitz, and Treblinka. Simon Srebnik is among the witnesses heard here, alongside Michael Podchlebnik and others whose testimony reaches from the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to an SS officer's account of the gas chambers at Treblinka. The focus stays on voices, memory, and the present-day landscapes where these events unfolded.
