At a remote Swiss boarding school, an American teenager discovers she can communicate with insects just as a killer begins targeting girls nearby. Jennifer Connelly is the unnerved new arrival, whose sleepwalking and psychic link to flies and other insects make her an unlikely lead in the investigation. Donald Pleasence's entomologist becomes an ally as the murders close in on the school, and Dario Argento folds the alpine setting, police hunt, and swarming insect imagery into a murder mystery that keeps shifting between fairy tale and nightmare.
