Nymphomaniac: Vol. II

DramaMystery124 min

Joe continues telling the story of her sexually driven life from a stranger’s apartment, tracing her adulthood into increasingly punishing relationships and compulsions that leave her in Seligman’s care. Charlotte Gainsbourg is the older Joe, recounting the next chapters with blunt detail, while Stellan Skarsgård’s Seligman listens, questions, and tries to make sense of what he hears. In Lars von Trier’s second volume, the confession turns toward sadomasochism, shame, and the damage Joe carries into her adult life, filling in how she arrived bruised and alone at a stranger’s door.
