In Western Australia during World War I, two young sprinters leave the open countryside behind and enlist in the Australian Army, drawn by duty, adventure, and the pull of something larger than themselves. Training turns boys into soldiers, but it also exposes the gap between the excitement of enlistment and the machinery of war. Sent through Egypt and on to the Gallipoli peninsula, they find themselves caught in a campaign shaped by distance, delay, and orders from far above the battlefield. As the fighting closes in, friendship becomes their main anchor while the purpose of what they are asked to do grows harder to believe. Mark Lee and Mel Gibson lead the two friends at its center.
