Fanny and Alexander

DramaFantasyMystery188 min

In turn-of-the-century Uppsala, siblings Fanny and Alexander grow up inside the warm, crowded world of the Ekdahl family and its theater, until their father’s sudden death sends them into a very different home. Bertil Guve is Alexander, a watchful ten-year-old whose imagination turns restless under the rule of Jan Malmsjö’s severe bishop after their mother remarries. Ingmar Bergman follows the children through Christmas feasts, family rituals, funerals, and flashes of the uncanny as the Ekdahls try to reach Emilie and her children before the bishop’s control closes in.
