In racially divided Anderson, South Carolina, in 1976, high school football coach Harold Jones notices a quiet young man known as Radio near the practice field and begins bringing him into the life of the team. Cuba Gooding Jr. is Radio, a Black young man with an intellectual disability whose growing bond with the players opens a path to T.L. Hanna High School. Ed Harris’s Jones soon finds that act of friendship under scrutiny as parents and fans question whether his attention belongs on Radio or on the football season. The film is inspired by the story of James Robert “Radio” Kennedy.
