The Rookie

DramaFamily128 min

Twelve years after a shoulder injury ended his pitching career, Jim Morris is a Texas high-school chemistry teacher and baseball coach with a wife, kids, and a long-buried shot at the majors. Dennis Quaid is Jim, who makes a bargain with his struggling team: if they win the district championship, he’ll show up at a major-league tryout. When the players hold up their end, a promise made in the locker room turns into a second chance, and Jim’s 98 mph fastball catches scouts off guard. Rachel Griffiths appears as his wife, watching family life shift as the possibility of pro baseball returns.
