As four Army recruits wait in a stateside barracks to be sent to Vietnam, the room’s uneasy hierarchy cracks open when one of them is revealed to be gay. Matthew Modine and Michael Wright are among the young men forced into close quarters, where fear, racism, homophobia, and class tension turn ordinary downtime into confrontation. Robert Altman directs David Rabe’s play adaptation with a close focus on the group’s arguments, rivalries, and the pressure building before deployment.
