In 1980s Manhattan, a gay couple are thrown off balance when one partner prepares to leave for a work trip overseas, turning their last days together into a scramble of parties, arguments, old loyalties, and unfinished business. Michael tries to manage the strain of the coming separation while still caring for his former lover Nick, whose life is being reshaped by AIDS. Around them, friends and exes move in and out of cramped apartments, dinners, and downtown nights, creating a close portrait of a community living with love, jealousy, routine, and fear at the height of the Reagan-era crisis. The film follows how private relationship troubles and a public health emergency press on the same circle at once.
