Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears

ComedyDramaRomance142 min

In a Moscow workers’ dorm, Katerina (Vera Alentova) and her two friends arrive determined to make lives for themselves in the city. After a cameraman forces himself on her, Katerina is left pregnant and raising a daughter alone, while the film follows the women’s paths as years pass and ambitions harden into adult realities. Two decades later, Katerina has become a factory director, successful at work but isolated at home, until a chance meeting brings Aleksey Batalov into her life as a genial mechanic. Romance, friendship, and class tensions all run through a portrait of ordinary Soviet life shaped by time and disappointment.
