Le Havre

ComedyDrama94 min

In the French port city of Le Havre, an elderly shoeshiner’s modest routine is upended when he crosses paths with a young African refugee being pursued by police for deportation. André Wilms is Marcel Marx, scraping by while caring for his ill wife; Idrissa (Blondin Miguel) arrives on the run and draws Marcel into a risky effort to shield him. Written and directed by Aki Kaurismäki, the film stays close to harbor streets, small apartments, and the neighbors who begin to gather around Marcel as official pressure closes in.
