Struggling songwriter Dave Seville takes in three talking chipmunks after they tumble into his life and discovers they can sing. Jason Lee is Dave, whose longshot music career suddenly turns on mischievous Alvin, brainy Simon, and impressionable Theodore. As the trio's songs start getting attention, his home becomes a whirlwind of rehearsals, mischief, and unlikely family life. Then record executive Ian Hawke (David Cross) spots their commercial potential, pulling Dave and the chipmunks into a clash between pop stardom and the bond they've started to build.
