After a fellow 00 agent turns up dead with a priceless Fabergé egg, Roger Moore’s James Bond follows the trail from India into a smuggling ring tied to a Russian general bent on pushing East-West tensions toward war. Along the way he crosses paths with Maud Adams’s Octopussy, the leader of a private circus troupe whose operation sits near the center of the mystery. The chase runs through Indian palaces, a circus train in Germany, and one of Bond’s more unusual disguises — a clown suit — as he tries to stop an atomic bomb from turning a covert plot into an international crisis.
