The Breadwinner
AnimationDramaFamilyWar94 min
After her father is arrested in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan in 2001, 11-year-old Parvana cuts her hair and disguises herself as a boy so she can provide for her family. As she moves through markets and streets newly closed to her as a girl, she teams up with her friend Shauzia and finds both freedom and danger in the wider world. The film threads Parvana’s daily struggle with the fantastical stories she tells, using them as a window into her fear, hope, and determination. Saara Chaudry leads the voice cast, with Noorin Gulamgaus and Laara Sadiq among the family around her.
