Reporter Steve Everett is sent to cover a San Quentin execution and comes to believe the man on death row is innocent, leaving him only hours to prove it. Clint Eastwood is Everett, an Oakland journalist whose drinking, affairs and failures as a father have left his life in pieces just as the deadline becomes literal. Across the prison walls, Isaiah Washington’s condemned prisoner waits for midnight while Everett chases answers through the newsroom, the courts and his own unraveling personal life.
