Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) is a married architect so consumed by work and a longed-for promotion that his wife and children keep getting pushed aside. On a late-night hunt for a universal remote, he meets Christopher Walken's Morty, an oddball store clerk who hands him a device that can mute arguments, fast-forward chores, and skip past everyday frustrations. What starts as a shortcut through traffic jams and family chaos keeps expanding, giving Michael control over more than the TV and forcing him to reckon with the parts of his life he keeps trying to bypass, including Kate Beckinsale's Donna.
