In 1994 Rwanda, hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina uses his position, his contacts, and the Hôtel des Mille Collines itself to shelter terrified civilians as Hutu militias begin the genocide against the Tutsi population. Don Cheadle is Paul, trying to protect both strangers and his own family; Sophie Okonedo's Tatiana remains beside him as the number of refugees inside the hotel keeps rising and the violence presses closer beyond its walls. Inspired by true events, the film stays close to the choices, negotiations, and risks inside one besieged building while the country collapses around it.
