Karthi is Varun, an Indian Air Force fighter pilot whose romance with doctor Leela unfolds amid the mountains of Kashmir and the lead-up to the 1999 Kargil War. Aditi Rao Hydari’s Leela wants tenderness, while Varun approaches love on his own terms, turning their relationship into a push and pull before the conflict intervenes. Framed by Varun’s time as a prisoner of war in Pakistan, Mani Ratnam’s film moves between memory, sweeping landscapes, and a love story shaped as much by separation and ego as by attraction.
