When 8-year-old Bruno moves with his family from Berlin to a remote house in Poland during World War II, he becomes fixated on the fenced compound beyond the garden. Asa Butterfield is Bruno, a lonely child who slips away from home and meets Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a boy his own age on the other side of the barbed wire, where everyone seems to wear striped pajamas. Unaware that Shmuel is a Jewish prisoner, or of the role his own father has in the camp, Bruno builds a forbidden friendship shaped by innocence, secrecy, and the brutal world just beyond his understanding.
