Cem Davran is Yetis Bey, locked in a comic struggle with the Byzantine emperor Illetyus as palace conflict and period heroics get turned into farce. Perfidious Byzantine builds its story around that rivalry while spoofing the splashy, kitsch Turkish historical dramas that filled screens in the 1970s. Ornate costumes, court intrigue, and exaggerated battles are all pushed toward parody rather than prestige. Mehmet Ali Erbil and Ayşegül Aldinç are among the large ensemble surrounding Yetis Bey as he tries to outmaneuver an emperor and survive the chaos around the throne.
