During Rome’s Ferragosto holiday, a broke middle-aged man agrees to look after his building manager’s elderly mother in exchange for help with mounting debts, only to find more elderly relatives being dropped at his door. Gianni Di Gregorio is Gianni, already living with and caring for his own demanding mother in a worn apartment and escaping when he can to the local tavern. Valeria De Franciscis is the first of the formidable women who take over his home. As the city empties for August, cooking, caretaking, and quiet negotiations turn the holiday into a crowded domestic balancing act.
