In the Name of the Father

CrimeDrama133 min

Small-time Belfast thief Gerry Conlon is swept into a nightmare after a London IRA bombing leaves him, his friends, and even his father accused of a crime they didn’t commit. Daniel Day-Lewis is Gerry, first seen ducking trouble in 1970s Northern Ireland before police interrogations and a British trial close in around him. Pete Postlethwaite’s Giuseppe gives the story its center: a quiet father pulled into the same case, then into the prison fight to clear their names. The film traces the Guildford Four through cells, courtrooms, and a father-son relationship strained by fear, guilt, and the pressure of proving innocence.
