Dolemite Is My Name

ComedyDrama118 min

In 1970s Los Angeles, struggling performer Rudy Ray Moore is stuck on the margins of show business until he builds a swaggering alter ego named Dolemite out of street-corner stories, dirty rhymes, and pure self-invention. When the character catches on in clubs and on records, Moore decides that success onstage is not enough and sets out to make a movie himself. With little money, no backing, and a cast and crew made up of believers and friends, he pushes into a film world that has no interest in letting him in. Eddie Murphy leads Moore’s scramble to turn hustle, nerve, and a homemade persona into a feature with an audience waiting for it.
