Out of the Furnace

CrimeDramaThriller116 min

Christian Bale is Russell Baze, a Pennsylvania steel mill worker trying to hold together a life in the worn-down Rust Belt while looking out for his younger brother Rodney. After a sudden turn puts Russell in prison, Rodney (Casey Affleck), an Iraq veteran, drifts toward bare-knuckle fights and a violent criminal circle that reaches across state lines. When Russell comes home, he’s forced back into a landscape of shuttered mills, old debts, and men who profit from desperation, including Willem Dafoe’s local middleman and Woody Harrelson’s Harlan DeGroat, a gang leader whose world runs on drugs, intimidation, and sudden violence.
