A malevolent alien parasite starts overtaking a small South Carolina town, transforming residents into zombies and mutant creatures as the infection spreads block by block. Nathan Fillion is sheriff Bill Pardy, the local lawman trying to hold the town together, with Elizabeth Banks among the residents caught in the outbreak. In his directorial debut, James Gunn leans into squirmy slugs, body horror, and deadpan small-town banter while the creature chaos keeps escalating.
