Police Lt. Leonard Diamond is consumed by one case: bringing down Mr. Brown, a ruthless gangster with connections everywhere. Cornel Wilde is Diamond, whose pursuit turns personal as he becomes fixated on Brown’s girlfriend, Susan Lowell; Richard Conte’s Brown carries himself with a polished calm that masks something far more dangerous. As Diamond presses for answers, the investigation leads back to a woman from Brown’s past named Alicia and into a web of intimidation, double-crosses, and private vendettas. Jean Wallace is Susan, caught between the detective closing in and the crime boss he can’t quite reach.
