A soldier from rural India discovers a rare talent for running while serving in the Army and rises to become a seven-time national steeplechase champion. For a while, sport gives Paan Singh Tomar a way out of hardship and a place in a system that finally seems to reward him. But when he returns home and runs into land disputes, local power, and official corruption, the discipline that made him a champion stops being enough. Pressed from all sides and denied justice, he is driven into the ravines and becomes an armed outlaw. Irrfan Khan anchors the story as a man whose life turns from national glory to open war with the authorities.
