Nick Nolte is the tormented artist at the center of “Life Lessons,” channeling heartbreak and jealousy into his work as his young assistant pulls away. “Life Without Zoë” follows a privileged 12-year-old making her way through hotel life and loneliness. In “Oedipus Wrecks,” Woody Allen’s anxious lawyer Sheldon Mills discovers that his overbearing mother has become impossible to escape, even in a city built for anonymity.
