After a human head is discovered in present-day Hong Kong, a murder case begins to pull together a bullied student, a cellist, an autistic teenager, a police officer, a prostitute, a teacher, and a dog. Hanna Chan is the gifted schoolgirl caught in one thread, already under pressure after her father, a corrupt cop, is exposed online and her stepmother is shamed for her work as a prostitute. Chapman To's disgraced officer is one link in a mystery that widens through clues, motives, and a chain of connections tied to the letter G.
