On a distant planet, two androids are charged with raising human children after Earth’s wars have left civilization in ruins. Mother and Father try to build an atheist colony from scratch, teaching the children to survive in a harsh landscape where food is scarce and the environment itself can turn deadly. Their fragile settlement is shaken when a rival group of human survivors arrives, bringing old beliefs and old conflicts with them. As the children are pulled between competing ideas about faith, family, and who should control their future, the androids’ programming and purpose come under increasing strain. Ridley Scott directs the opening episodes, with Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim as the two artificial parents.
