In Pittsburgh, Alex Owens works at a steel mill by day and performs at a nightclub by night, pushing toward her bigger goal: getting into ballet school. Jennifer Beals is Alex, a self-taught dancer balancing ambition, insecurity, and a romance with her employer; Michael Nouri’s Nick is the mill owner whose support complicates the line between work and love. Adrian Lyne frames the story with industrial city streets, rehearsal spaces, and stage numbers shaped by 1980s pop, following Alex as she tries to turn private discipline and after-hours performance into a different future.
