In 1980s and 1990s New York, dancers and models build lives inside the city’s underground ball scene, where elaborate competitions offer trophies, status, and a chance to be seen. The series follows people in African-American and Latino LGBTQ communities as they join Houses, chosen families that provide shelter, guidance, and fierce loyalty when the outside world shuts them out. Rival Houses clash on the ballroom floor, but the larger struggle is survival: finding work, keeping a home, protecting relationships, and claiming dignity in a city that often denies it. As ambition, romance, and identity collide, the ballroom becomes both escape and battleground.
