After a car accident in the English countryside, American couple Margaret and Pete are taken to a grand estate where a dying man has gathered a circle of distinguished guests—and where everyone seems to have been expecting them. Katharine Ross is Margaret, increasingly unsettled by the house's rituals, warnings, and sudden violence, while Sam Elliott's Pete tries to understand why they were brought there at all. As the guests begin dying under bizarre circumstances, the mansion's polished rooms, watchful servants, and hints of a supernatural inheritance turn the visit into a trap.
