The Normal Heart

DramaRomance133 min

As a mysterious illness begins devastating gay men from Fire Island to Manhattan in early-1980s New York, writer and activist Ned Weeks is pulled into a fight with politicians, hospitals, and a wider public unwilling to face what’s happening. Mark Ruffalo is Ned, a confrontational organizer trying to force attention onto the emerging AIDS crisis. Julia Roberts’s Dr. Emma Brookner is one of the few doctors speaking plainly about the outbreak, as activists and allies scramble to organize care, demand research, and push through denial inside both government and their own community.
